The AUDF President Badruddin Ajamal has proposed to put his candidature from Silchar Parliamentry Constituency opposing Santosh Mohan Dev, in an effort to reduce his influence from Barak Valley in Assam. Although the Cachar Branch of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind is said not to be in favour of Ajamal’s move but he is reportedly saying that his party workers wanted him in the electoral battle against Dev to show congress how powerful the AUDF is in the state politics. While on tour Ajamal addressed a number of public meetings drawing hues gathering and expressed firmly that he with the help of the active support of his party workers could be able to break into the fort of Dev.
But some leaders of the Silchar unit of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind are said of the view that the presence of Ajamal as AUDF candidate against Santosh Mohan will lead to the division of Muslim votes which puts BJP in advantageous position in the LS election and might help Kavindra Purkayastha, the former Minister and the probable candidate of BJP.
