Peace Committee formed at Assam-Nagaland border at Geleky

A 15-members joint peace committee between the residents of boder areas of Assam and Nagaland was formed at a public meeting held at Hingibeel Bazar on September 24. The people and representatives of the border areas of Geleky, under Nazira Sub-Division of Sivasagar district and the Tamlu Sub-Division of Lungleng district of Nagaland were present in the meeting. The MLA of Tamlu Legislative Constituency and Parliamentary Secretary of Transport and Communication, Taku Phom was present in this meeting. Decision was taken to maintain peace and harmony among the people of both the states and to solve their problems amicably in conducive atmosphere. Besides everybody stressed to revive the age old tradition of brotherhood among the people of the neighbouring states.

ULFA frees Subba's newphew free

Former Congress MP Mani Kumar Subba's newphew Ajoyraj Subba is back to home after 14 days after suspected ULFA militants kidnapped him at gunpoint from Bordubi. Subba owns a small tea estate arrived in his Tinsukia based residene on Monday midnight. He is understood to have released from Tirap area in Arunachal Pradesh. But Subba is not aware of what took place as after he was kidnapped by a few youths at gunpoint from Bordubi Chariali a few days back. He was freed 12 hour after the Gorkha Students Union enforced upper Assam bandh demanding his immediate relase. Initially, it was suspected to be a handiwork of ULFA. But the banned insurgent outfit is yet to clear its position.

Prez visits Silchar, attends Namami Barak closing ceremony

Silchar:President Ramnath Kovind has stressed unity among the various group of people to help thr country stand tall even in the moment of crises. Addressing the closing ceremony of thr three days Namami Barak festival in Silchar, the President said India as a nation has been surviving only because of diversified culture where the north eastern region had a huge contribution.

Chief minister Sarbanabda Sonowal, in his speech vowed to uplift the people of both Brahmaputra and Barak Valley to make Assam and strong and stout state in the country.

Earlier, Sonowal and his senior ministerial colleagues received Kovind at the airport and straightly took him away to the festival venue where thousands of people thronged to catch glimpse of the festival which ends on Monday.
