Homen Borgohain speaks at Karunadhara's awareness meet

"No one in Sorrow should  be left alone", said Homen Borgohain, Noted Writer, while he graced as Chief Guest in an awareness programme organised by Karunadhara (an NGO) at J.K Kedia Smriti Bhawan in Hojai on Saturday.

Borgohain said ,"Life is a precious blessing from almighty to help the needy ones  and use it in productive manner for the well being of others , addind  he exhorted everyone to help the underpriveledged ones  as per their capacity for  over all upliftment of the society."

"Money  alone cann't buy happiness, but the works we do for the welfare of the down trodden ones will surely make us happy thereby make our life in true sense  a meaningful one", Borgohain added.

He further highlighted on the significance of Kindness with lots of examples.

The awareness meeting was presided over by Nawazuddin Ahmed, President Karunadhara Hojai unit which was graced along with the Chief Guest by Pratul Phukan, President Karunadhara Central Unit along with many other eminent guests.

During the programme homeage was paid infront of the portrait of Noted Educationist  Subrata Chakraborty, who passed away on October 28 last and a souvenir was released on his life, which was edited by Srimanta Madhav Sarma.


Jayanto Choudhury,Special trainer for Disabled People  was feliciated on this occasion  for his enormous contribution to uplift the life of disabled ones.

Many guests and youths contributed as per their capacity to the NGO for continuing their welfare programmes.


People from all the walks of life attended the awareness meet. The programme was anchored by Anup Kumar Barthakur, Secretary, Karunadhara Hojai Unit.

Notably,  Karunadhara is a non-Government registered Trust dedicating itself for promoting overall well being of persons suffering from physical or mental disability and for enabling financially weak critically ill persons to avail of costly specialised treatment. In addition to providing required financial aid to such needy persons, Karunadhara has also been taking up various measures to develop lalent talent and raise social status of physically and / or mentally challenged persons .

Four held in Hojai shoot out case

HOJAI: The Hojai police have arrested four persons 24 hours after they allegedly shot dead a person on the town on Thursday night. Identified as Rajib Mazumdar, Yahiya Uddin, Haidar Ali  and Makbul Islam they were arrested acting on some inputs after the police registered the case. After interrogation they would be produced before the court.  Police further claimed to have recovered a  7.65mm pistol  2 magazines, 10 rounds of live. 7.65mm bullets, 2 live rounds of  303 bullets and 4 rounds of Cartridges from the possession of Makbul during the search operation at his premises.which was kept concealed in the house  premises. A separate case has been registered.

1 hurt in Hojai shoot out

HOJAI: One person sustained serious injury when unidentified miscreants fired upon him in Hojai on Thursday.The incident took place in Ahmed Nagar when two motor cycle born youths fired upon Abdur Kadir at 8.45 in the evening. A severally injured Kadir has been referred to Guwahati after primary treatment at a local hospital.Police have registered a case and operation is going on to nab the miscreants.  

Will NFR take blame for jumbo death?

HOJAI: Forest department has blamed it all on the Northeast Frontier Railways for the recent incident where five wild jumbos were crushed to death by a speeding train.Addressing a press conference, District Forest Officer Safikur Rahman said the NF Railways has issued misleading statement since the timing of the incident happended on 10th february when train no. 15611( Silchar bound Guwahati- Silchar fast passenger) passed was 9:32 PM not 9:40 PM. Pramila faces protest, blames railways

HOJAI: Amid widespread shock and anger forest minister Pramilarani Brahma threatens to file case against Northeast Frontier Railway a day after a speeding passenger train knocked down four wild elephants in Lanka. Jumbos crushed to death by train

HOJAI: Four full grown wild jumbos died a tragic death when a speeding train rammed into a herd of wild elephants in Hojai on Saturday sending huge shock and anger across the state. The incident took place in the evening at Hawaijan area where the Guwahati)bound passenger train from Silchar rammed into a herd of wild elephants as it crossed the railway tracks. The hit was so massive that a few compartments of the train jumped out off the rails. But there was no report of injury to the passengers. Police officer crushed to death

Shock and sensation prevail in Hojai when an unidentified speedy car crushed to death a police officer on Saturday night. According to information the incident took place at night in Nilbagan area on NH No 54 when the speeding car knocked down Ajit Gogoi WT-OPR( Police Personnel) as he was returning to home from duty.   He was immediately taken to the hospital. But the doctors declared him brought dead. Hailing from Sivasagar, Gogoi was known for his honesty and sincerity who has been working in Nilbagan for the last 15 years.  SP Devojyoti Mukherjee, and many organizations and individuals have deeply condoled Gogoi’s death.

Gunustav underway in Hojai

Hojai: The third phase of Gunutsav gets underway in Hojai along with some other districts in the state.
