Parag Kumar Das Journalism Award 2023 to Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty

Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty, a veteran journalist, will receive the Parag Kumar Das Journalism Award 2023. The award includes a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation, and a memento. The award ceremony will take place on May 17.

Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty currently serves as the National Affairs Editor for the digital news publication 'The Wire.'

The Parag Kumar Das Journalism Award was established to honor the courageous journalist Parag Kumar Das, who lost his life while fighting for the truth. The award recognizes and encourages journalists who tirelessly uncover the truth and bring it to the public.

BSF Director General K K Sharma visited the Indo-Bangladesh border in Silchar sector on Saturday a few days after Union home minister Rajnath Singh ordered complete seal of the international border.    According to official sources, during the inspection, the BSF chief visited Steamerghat based border outpost where the officials apprised him of the state of affairs in the 3.5 km unfenced border portion. The newly elected legislative members took oath in the first day of the Assam assembly on Wednesday. Pro tem Speaker Phani Bhushan Chaudhury administered the members the oath as the legislative assembly members. Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal was the first to have taken oath. The House unanimously elected Ranjit Kumar Das as the new Speaker. BJP, AGP, BPF, Congress and other leaders congratulated the Sorbhog BJP MLA and assured him of all possible help to ensure smooth conduct of the House proceedings. Assam Congress president Anjan Dutta’s condition deteriorates further on Thursday forcing the AIIMS authority in New Delhi to shift him to the intensive care unit. Dutta, who has been ailing for the last couple of days were admitted to the country’s top hospital in the capital last week where his condition has refused to improve. Assam state BJP president Sarbananda Sonowal is taking oath as Chief Minister on Tuesday after his party swept the recent assembly polls. Governor PB Acharya is scheduled to administer the Union minister of oath of office and secrecy at a function at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara in the morning to succeed Tarun Gogoi who has resigned when his party could not retain the power. BJP is preparing to form a coalition government in a day or two with the help of AGP and BPF.
