KOKRAJHAR, April 4: A massive election rally was held at Shilbari under Parbatjhora constituency in Kokrajhar district in support of Congress candidate Ashraful Islam Sheikh. The rally was addressed by Gaurav Gogoi, President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and Member of Parliament.
Addressing the gathering, Gogoi criticized the ruling government, alleging that it remains focused on the development of Dispur while neglecting regions such as Kokrajhar, the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), and other interior areas. He assured that if Congress comes to power, special funds would be allocated for the development of BTR.
Launching a political attack, Gogoi alleged that the All India United Democratic Front acts as the “B team” of the Bharatiya Janata Party and urged voters to remain cautious.
Highlighting key points from his speech, Gogoi said that a strong alliance is in place and expressed confidence that the next government would be formed by them. He claimed that people from Upper Assam have extended support and added that citizens in Guwahati are demanding justice for “Zubeen Da.” He further noted that Priyanka Gandhi has also raised the issue, promising that justice would be delivered within 100 days if Congress comes to power.
Gogoi also accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of concealing facts and making baseless statements, including targeting women. He alleged the existence of syndicates involving cattle, coal, and stone, claiming that such networks sustain the BJP, with support from AIUDF.
He further stated that whenever BJP faces challenges, AIUDF comes to its rescue, reiterating his claim that AIUDF functions as a support system for the ruling party. He urged voters to remain vigilant and cast their votes in favor of Congress candidate Ashraful Islam Sheikh.
Meanwhile, Congress candidate Ashraful Islam Sheikh expressed confidence that voters in Parbatjhora constituency would reject the NDA-supported candidate. He alleged that the Bodoland People's Front and BJP are essentially aligned, claiming that Dr. Rezaul is not genuinely a BPF candidate but a BJP-backed contender.
Sheikh said that the people of the constituency are determined to vote against the NDA and ensure a Congress victory in the upcoming elections.
