The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Guwahati Off-Campus on Saturday held its 12th Convocation for students who graduated in 2025 at the Zubeen Garg Auditorium of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) in Guwahati.
The convocation was attended by Gauhati High Court Judge Justice Soumitra Saikia as the chief guest, along with TISS Chancellor and former UGC Chairperson Prof. D.P. Singh, TISS Vice Chancellor Prof. Badri Narayan Tiwari, Officiating Registrar Dr. Narendra Mishra and Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Sunil D. Santha.
Several dignitaries, including officials from KKHSOU, OKDISC and ICSSR-NERC, and Assam government adviser Dr. Keshav Kumar, IPS (Retd.), were also present.
Delivering the convocation address, Justice Soumitra Saikia congratulated the graduating students and urged them to become agents of social transformation rooted in constitutional values, indigenous wisdom and local realities. He said the Constitution of India is not merely a legal framework but a moral covenant promising justice, equality and fraternity.
Prof. D.P. Singh, in his presidential address, highlighted that TISS is celebrating its 90th year of existence and stressed that knowledge must serve real communities and not remain confined to textbooks. He encouraged students to uphold values such as trust, integrity and social welfare in line with the vision of NEP 2020 and Viksit Bharat@2047.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Badri Narayan Tiwari said the achievements of the graduating students reflected the growing stature of TISS as a multi-campus institution committed to addressing India’s diverse social realities with academic rigour and ethical sensitivity.
A total of 116 students graduated during the convocation. Three scholars received PhD degrees in Social Sciences, 102 students obtained MA and MASW degrees in different programmes, while 11 students received Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (BASS) degrees after exiting in the third year.
The Chancellor’s Gold Medal for Guwahati Off-Campus, instituted for the first time, was awarded to Jyotirmoy Jishnu for securing the top position in MA in Social Work (Livelihood and Social Entrepreneurship).
TISS Guwahati Off-Campus Director Prof. Jagannath Ambagudia presented the Annual Report for 2024-25 and highlighted the institution’s academic achievements, research activities and the recent recognition received from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports for its Northeast-focused initiatives.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Kalpana Sarathy, Dean, School of Social Work, TISS Guwahati Off-Campus.
