Guwahati : The All Assam Students Union( AASU) and the All Minority Students Union(AMSU) are exchanged in a bitter war of words.
In a press conference at Guwahati on Saturday, The AMSU Organising Secretary Ajijul Hussain Khondakar, chief organizing secretary of AAMSU had criticised the AASU Adviser, Sammujal Bhattacharya as a Congress stooge and also warned of a backlash against the Asomiya community in the minority dominated districts of Dhubri and Goalpara.
AASU central leaders as well as the Anchalik Units have come down strongly against these statements and they have issued strong warning to the AAMSU to abstain from such dangerous statements.
AGP and BJP have strongly criticised the AMSU statements. BJP wants the government to initiate criminal proceedings against the AMSU leaders. AGP President Brindaban Goswami in a statement wondered why the CM has not uttered a single word on the inflammatory statements made by the AMSU.
Various Organisations in the State have also come out strongly against the AMSU for their statements.
Meanwhile the AMSU in a damage control exercise has said that they had not said that they would drive out the Majority Population from the minority dominated areas but rather they were apprehensive that due to the recent steps taken by AASU and NESO, the minorities may feel aggrieved and they may retaliate.

The killer bird flu is dispersing to some more areas that could force the authorities to expand the culling operation.According to information, in the city also bird flu is being detected in Khanapara area. After being confirmed it, the Kamrup district administration has banned import and export of poultry. A major explosion was averted beside a theatre show when army recovered a powerful bomb in front of the West Goalpara College on Wednesday morning. According to information, having seen some suspicious materials inside a basket, local residents informed it to Army's No 3 Sikh Regiment who recovered it in the wee hours and took it away to a safe place. Immediately after it, the bomb left off this morning before it was defused. Investigation is on. It is really a matter of shame that the culprits who are involved in the rape against two indigenous ladies in the Udalguri district are yet to be arrested. Civil Society organisations in different parts of Assam have demanded for the arrests of the culprits and provide justice to the victims. A devastating fire that broke out in Guwahati’s Machkhowa area on Sunday evening has reduced over 100 houses to ashes with properties worth lakhs of rupees burnt to black coal. The incident took place at Kolgoli area at around 6-30 in the evening. Immediate cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained. Minutes after fire broke out inside a small house, it took a devastating turn and engulfed adjacent houses. There were sounds of blasts of LPG cylinders heard in the area. Several fire tenders were rushed to the spot but by then over 100 houses had already been reduced to ashes. Over 500 people have been left homeless. Fire tenders are till working to bring the situation under control.
ULFA has lost one more cadre of its 709th battalion. According to information, hardcore cadre Tapan Roy was killed during a joint operation by army and police at Belguri in Kokrajhar district of west Assam on Friday. He was known to be from the fatal 709th battalion. An AK series rifle, a magazine and some live ammunition have also been recovered from his possession.

Rattled by the recent serial blast, the Assam government is considering more teeth in the laws to deal with terror saying that the existing laws are not enough to serve the purpose.Addressing a press conference in Dispur on Thursday, Assam Chief Minister said the he would soon approach the Centre to raise the demand for an NSG-like police commando to efficiently tackle terror.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said, “need of the hour is a set of more harsh and stringent laws to tackle these elements more efficiently and more firmly. Three persons died and over 50 have been injured when a powerful bomb exploded at a passenger train in Diphu Railway station early in the morning on Tuesday.
According to information, the blast took place at the 901 Lumding-Tinsukia UP train. The time device bomb was planted inside the Coach No 8209. One person died on the spot and the injured have been shifted to the Diphu civil hospital. Immediately after the incident, police arrived on the spot. Investigation is on. The blast is suspected to be a handiwork of KLNLF.
