Various organizations and institutions of Kalaigaon areas have condemned the burning down of Shobharani Jatiya Bidyalaya school building by miscreants at Borkola,10 km from Kalaigaon on February 17 at dawn. Founded in 1994,Shobharani Jatiya Bidyalaya has been one of the leading schools in the district, with good academic results. There have been more than 120 students studying in the school from Ankur to class ten. According to information received miscreants had sprayed petrol on the school buildings before setting fire to them.The devastating fire burnt down all

Students residing in the nearby school hostels were however rescued by the villagers in time. It has been alleged that several attempts had also been made in the previous years to set fire to the school buildings for un known reason. The first incident occurred in in April,1997,when one of the school building with its office room was burnt down by miscreants. Another incident was occurred on February 14 in 2009,when the kitchen of the school hostel was set to fire by miscreants. According to the villagers, the school land had been donated by one Shobharani Dey of Borkola village in the year 1994 for the establishment of the school.But the relatives of the lady were opposed to the deal as they wanted the land for themselves. Another source said that the school received huge amounts of public funds, as some of the top ULFA cadres had sponsored the idea of establishing the school.Most of the documental records of the school funds were destroyed during the first incident of fire in 1997,the sources said. Circle Officer,Kalaigaon visited the site immediately after the incident.
