Sanjoy Hazarika Bereaved

Minal Hazarika wife of Sanjoy Hazarika, noted author, Journalist and Managing Trustee of Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research (C-NES), passed away on at the Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi on April 3, 2009. She had suffered a stroke at Guwahati on 15 January 2009 and was undergoing treatment at Gangaram Hospital for nearly three months. She was in her fifties and was a well known figure in Assam and in New Delhi. She leaves behind a daughter (Meghna Hazarika) besides her husband. At this hour of grief we pray for the departed soul.

I never knew Mrs. Hazarika personally but I had a telecon with Mr. Hazarika and from what I have read of him and his films I have seen, at this moment my condolences and prayers are with him and his family.

I knew Sanjoy from our St. Edmund's school days in Shillong. Mrs Hazarika's work through C-NES has been an eyeopener for Indians vis-a-vis the North East. This loss is a great setback to propagation of the understanding of the psyche of northeasterners. May her soul rest in peace and may Sanjoy and Meghna have God's blessings to overcome this bereavement.

Flood situation remains grim in North Assam

The flood situation in Assam remained grim with fresh areas inundated by rising waters of river Brahmaputra and its tributaries while worst-hit Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts remained cut-off as heavy rains lashed the catchment areas. Early birds continues street dog rabies free programme

The Early Birds a nature organization for animal welfare and wild life protection had organized an anti rabies free vaccination camp for the street dogs on 6th July 08 on the occasion of World Zoonosis Day. . Left withdraws support to UPA

The Left Parties withdrew support to the UPA over the nuclear deal. However, the Samajvadi Party has come forward to support the government.
