HS results: Chayanika tops arts, Manoj science and Bidisha commerce

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council has declared the results of the Higher Secondary examinations of 2009 in science, arts and commerce streams on Tuesday. Chayanika Baruah from Kakojan College of Jorhat tops the arts stream while Bidisha Agrawal of the Guwahati Commerce College Agrawal has topped the commerce. The first position in science stream this year goes to Manoj Swargiary, a private candidate in Barpeta district. The results are will be available at 11 in the morning in all district headquarters. The Council conducted the examination across the state in February.


The percentage of successful candidate in arts is 69.99 while the it is 72.11 in commerce and 80.23 in science stream. Darrang district takes the lead in arts stream while Nalbari district tops in science stream while and Dhemaji district steals the march in commerce stream.

Of 1,50,419 candidates in arts, 5,323 candidates have secured in first division, 17,179 second division and 72,917 candidates have been placed in third division. The total number of candidates this time in commerce stream is 11,682 and these 1,338 get first division, 2541 second and 4545 candidates have been placed in third division.

In science stream, out of 12,531 candidates 3,030 candidates have secired first division, 5,396 second division while the remaining 1,627 candidates have been planed in second division.

ULFA and the government are well prepared to begin the much awaited peace talks on March 10. Disclosing this top ULFA leaders told journalists that the talk would be unconditional. The Centre is gearing up to hold talks with the United Liberation Front of Asom. A highly placed source in Union home ministry told .assamtimes that the first round of the much awaited talks are set to begin in the second week of March. But the date is yet to be fixed. The Election Commission is confident of a free and fair Assembly polls in Assam. Talking to media people in Guwahati on Thursday, Chief Election Commissioner Dr S Y Qureshi said the Commission has given the Assam government a slew of measures to make help them hold the upcoming polls a free and fair. The United Liberation Front of Asom is set to make a formal announcement on Saturday on its peace initiative with the government. According to sources available with www.assamtimes, the announcements will have details of the resolutions passed in the recent general council meet.
