Public health is under threat in Kamrup district

Public health is under threat in Kamrup district of Assam due to establishment of coke industries in various parts of the district. It is to be noted that the name of coke industry comes under high air polluting industries of the world. Coke industries are mainly engaged in purifying coal. But in the process of purifying coal air becomes polluted. Carbon Monoxide and many other toxic gases are left from these industries. According to a survey the whole environment has become polluted in the district . Water and paddy fields have also been affected by the pollution of these coke industries besides heavy air pollution. About twenty such industries have been set in Kamrup district only.

It should be mentioned that all those cokes industries have been set up in residential areas of the district pushing mass people to hell . Health experts have informed that the pollution may be the main cause of dangerous diseases like cancer, TB, skin disease etc. Even domestic animals may also be affected by toxic gases left by the industry. Productions of cultivations may become toxic as a result of the pollution of coke industries. Developed countries like Australia have already banned establishment of coke industries in the interest of public health. While the Government of Assam has been launching a serial campaign against pollution then at the same time how can air polluting coke industries be established in the state as mushrooms. This is the real picture of the interest of the Government in controlling the pollution in the state.

The Assam Pollution Control Board has given green signal to owners of such industries by issuing No Objection Certificates for establishment of such dangerous industries in residential areas. The district administration is also silent in this regard. According to the sources may political leaders have given pressure to the Pollution Control Board to issue such NOC’s and some corrupted officials of board have forwarded their helping hands to the owners of industries neglecting the interest of public health. It is odd looking that so called social organisations and social activists are far away from the matter of public health. Some sources have demanded that the owners of coke industries have managed concerned Government officials, MLA’s, political leaders, local media and so called social organizations with the expenditure of huge amount and their business of destroying eco system have been running in full sewing. And we all are blind witnesses of the dark future of our next generation.
