Farmers Training Programme under Technology Showcasing at Nagaon


The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon in collaboration with the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Shillongani organized three training programmes at Phulaguri, Raha and Hojai on 6th and 9th July, 2010 which were sponsored by IFFCO. In the training programmes held on 6th July, the welcome address and objectives of the programme was briefed by Dr T.P.Saikia, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Nagaon. Attending the programme, Dr. B.Barman, Chief Scientist, RARS, Shillongani highlighted the research achievements and recommendations in rice crop by AAU. Dr. B.Guha, Principal Scientist of RARS thoroughly discussed the efficient methods of transplanting and fertilizer application in Sali rice for increasing the production and productivity of rice crop. Mr. Anuj Kotoky, Field officer, IFFCO, highlighted the activities of IFFCO to the participants.


Similarly, a separate training programme was organized on the 9th July, 2010 in the premises of Sub-divisional Agricultural Office at Hojai for the beneficiaries of Technology Showcasing. The welcome address and objectives of the programme was briefed by Dr. T.P.Saikia, Programme Coordinator of KVK. Dr. B.Guha, Principal Scientist of RARS, discussed various techniques related to transplanting of rice and fertilizer application in a efficient way. Dr. P.K.Debchaudhury, Sr. Scientist of RARS also thoroughly discussed about the merits and demerits of different HYVs of rice along with their cultivation practices. The activities of IFFCO was highlighted by the Field Officer, Mr. Anuj Kotoky. The programme was also attended by Mr. C.K. Deka, SMS, KVK, Nagaon, Sri H.Kalita, Sr. ADO and Mr. M.Rahman, ADO, Hojai. After the training, the team of resource persons visited the farmers’ field at Milikbasti and Amtola and expressed satisfaction over their work in respect of Technology Showcasing being implemented by Assam Agricultural University.

Showcasing of Improved Agricultural technologies, a noble concept pioneered by the Assam Agricultural University has already started in Nagaon district with free distribution of seeds of “Ranjit” variety of rice in Raha and Phulaguri on the 29th May last.
