State level quiz on renewable energy held in Guwahati


An all Assam level quiz competition on renewable energy was held at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakhetra,Guwahati on Aust 19 on the occasion of Rajiv Gandhi Akskay Urja Diwas,2010.The quiz was organized by Assam Energy Development Agency under ASTEC (Assam Science Tecgnology & Environment Council )Guwahati in association with BJVJ (Bharat Jana Vigyan Jatha). According to Dr.Manoj Patowari, Secretary, BJVJ, Assam district level quiz competitions had been arranged in each of the 27 districts of Assam in August 2010 (on the same focal theme) and best 27 teams were invvited to participate in the state level competition. Dr.SK Choudhury, Director ASTEC formally inaugurated the state level quiz at 2 pm on August 19 at Kalakhetra auditorium in presence of distinguished persons. Noted quiz master Sanjeev Goswami conducted the state level quiz to much delight of the participants and audience. A qualifying round was held to select the best ten teams for the grand finale.Accordingly -Cachar,Udalguri,Chirang,Jorhat,KarbiAnglong,Barpeta,Nagaon,Nalbari,Dhemaji and Goalpara qualified for the grand finale.Nalbari,Dhemaji and jorhat won the first three places respectively while Udalguri and Cachar jointly won the fourth place.


Prizes were distributed next day at a function where Dr.Akhil Medhi VC of Guwahati university;Niraj Bajaj,Commissioner cum Secretary,Science & Technology,Govt. Of Assam; Dr.SK Choudhuri,Director ASTEC;Mrinal Choudhuri,Asstt.Director, Assam Energy Development Agency and Dr.Manoj Patowari,Secretary,Bharat Jana Vigyan Jatha attended as the distinguished guests.More than thousand school children from various schools of Guwahati city attended the ceromony and colourful procession arranged on the occasion.

In another tragic incident following the deaths of 5 people in Udalguri and Baksa districts, a 35 years old female wild elephant was found dead in Bhootiachang tea garden today morning. Veterinary doctor doing postmortem confirmed poisoning as the cause of death.

 Dead body of one Saidwmsri Daimari (24) daughter of Champa Ram Daimari of Khoirabari in Bhergaon subdivision, a student of Guwahati university has been found dead near Nonai river at Dhopguri,Tangla today morning. A ten years old wild tusker has been found dead near Nonai tea garden inside Khalingduar Reserve Forest in Udalguri district on April 1. According to eye witnesses the tusker could have died yesterday because of poisoning.It needs to mention that most of the forest officials including Range Officer of Nonai Range office have been engaged in BTC election  badly effecting forest activities in the sensitive India Bhutan border area.
