Congress-BJP-AGP straight contest in 120 Naharkatia LAC


A straight contest among Congress-BJP-AGP are on the cards a 120 Naharkatia LAC of Dibrugarh District in first phase election to be held on April 4. Current MLA Pranati Phukan, AGP Naran Sonowal and BJP candidate Pradip Buragohain will also play vital roles in the forth coming election.


On March 28, B.K.Handique Minister for DONER, attend an election rally at BVFCL play ground, and he emphasized on the all around development of the state in last 10 years under the Congress regine. Hera Handique mentioned that they are came forward to set up Namrup IV plant in BVFCL Namrup. Handique said that the proposal has been submitted to the Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizer New Delhi after detail study by renowned consultants in the field. The involvement require a huge funds amounting to Rs 3300 crores. However hopeful that the effort of all concerned will transform dream of Namrup IV in to reality said Handique. MLA Pranati Phukan too attend there and highlighted the several developmental activities already implemented.


Since independence, the constituency has been ruled by Congress. In the last 2006 Assembly polls Pranati Phukan won the Naharkatia LAC by defeating AGP alliance candidate CPI-M Dibya Kowar at a margin of 19500 votes. On that term Pranati Phukan of Congress got 40,065 votes, while CPI-M candidate got 20,511 votes.

Baba Ramdev of Patanjali fame will address a massive gathering of admires and yoga practitioners at Namrup on Feb 21 next as a part of countrywide BHARAT SWAVIMAN SAJAGATA Campaign. This was finalised at Namrup Patanjali Yoga Committee meeting held recently. A reception committee was fromed for the event with Dr. Tapan Sharma as president and Binu Bhagawati as secretary.
A fire broke out in the early morning of Thursday at Namrup town which destroyed result properties worth 40 lakh approximately. Residence of Atul Saha including his shop was destroyed. The fire also destroyed part of UCO Bank.
Umesh Roy (14), son of Sivsaran Roy, was found dead on September 20 at Namrup. The reason of the death was believed to be regular consumption of gutkha (sikhar). According to his parents, he goes to school as well as works in a shop to support the family. Sometimes he suffered stomach pain and on September 20 he was vomiting and died on the way to hospital. According to local people who are close to Umesh, he use to consume an average of 20 packets of sikhar daily. The post mortem report said stomach ulcer and bleeding.
"Ranga Prabhate Gaan" - a collection of Assamese progressive songs is released at Dibrugarh Chauolkhowa Music College recently. Producer and director Dr. Mohesh Deka of MD films and Music says "the songs are composed mainly on progressive ideas based on unity, peace and harmony in the present day society".
