Problems of girls education discussed at Kalaigaon

“It is very much important to give priority to woman education in India. Only educated good mothers can contribute for a good society”, so said Thaneswar Malakar, Deputy Commissioner, Udalguri district at the annual session of Kalaigaon Girls High School on April 26. Malakar attending the session as the chief guest spoke on the role of mothers in shaping the life of the children. He requested parents and guardians to follow example of Jawahar Lal Nehru, who used to write regular letters to his daughter Indira Gandhi.telling history and geography of India and world from various prisons of India. He said, Indira was sent to Santiniketan like a common girl for good education,although they had been millionaires.He also remarked that children should be taught prayer from early ages so as to make them self confident.

The open session was inaugurated by Nabin Chandra Boro,Inspector of Udalguri district.In his inaugural speech, Boro explained about the new education policies and programmes with special reference to woman education.He requested teachers to study non academic subjects so as to obtain basic knowledge of science technology, history and geography. Jagadish Sarkar, MCLA, BTC, while addressing girls, teachers and guardians remarked that though infested with insergency and ethnic clashes, students of Udalguri district had been showing good results in the HSLC examinations. In 2012 Udalguri students secured 12th rank in district wise performance (best in BTC). He also declared sanction of an amount of Rs.23.5 lakhs for the construction of boundary wall and gate of Kalaigaon Girls HS. The MCLA gave away best player award to Hasina Begum of the school. Mukunda Ram Choudhury, MLA, Kalaigaon proudly recalled his schooling days at Kalaigaon.He also requested all to come forward for the cause of better woman education.He also gave away best actress award to Krishna Sarma of the school.

Renowned singer of the state Kanika Bhattacahrya also graced the open session as the distinguished guest. She mesmerized girls ,parents and other distinguished guests by singing three melodious super hit songs including-” Luitor bukute lohiri kopile..”. Its needs mention that Kanika Bhattacharya was born at Kalaigaon in 1949. She too gave away best singer award to Nayana Choudhury of the school. The open session was presided over by Ubedur Rahman,Principal,Kalaigaon HS School and anchored by Jayanta Kumar Das. Distinguished social workers of Kalaigaon namely- Kami Ram Saharia, Mahendra Saikia, Krishna Boro and Kamal Prasad Sarma were also present on the occasion beside large numbers of media persons. Senior teacher Gajen Saharia offered vote of thanks at the end.

Protesting against sharp price rise of essential commodities in the country,more than five hundred people mostly woman staged dharna in front of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office today on September 2 at 11 am on the day of Bharat Bandh.The protesters blocked the main gate of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office preventing government officials and employees including Additional Deputy Commissioner Udalguri.
