Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. An uneasy situation is prevailing in Goalpara following a group clash that left one person killed and several others injured on Monday.The incident took place at Potharkuwa when a group of miscreants sprang upon section of people when they were taking out a procession during holi celebration in the afternoon.Police arrived in the spot and resorted to firing to disperse the mob. Properties worth one crore have been reduced to ashes when a devastating fire engulfed a lodged in Guwahati on Monday.The incident took place at 2 in the afternoon in Birubari because of a cylinder explosion. Within a short period of time, the fire ravaged the lodge along with a four wheeler. Fire tenders arrived in the spot. But by then the fire took its massive turn. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday slammed Narendra Modi alleging BJP was expert in packaging and marketing.Releasing the white paper on the central assistance to the state during the UPA and NDA governments at the Centre, Gogoi said that the state received only 13,000 crore from the centre during the NDA government at the Centre.He said that amount of central assistant during the UPA government is Rs 24,000 crore.
