12 hours 'Bandh' call of AAMSU ends peacefully at Nagaon

The 12 hours long 'Bandh' called by AAMSU against Police action on Barpeta yesterday ended peacefully here at Nagaon. The market area wore deserted look as shopkeepers kept their shutters down as pre-cautonnary measure, whereas majority road were empty due to absence of buses, auto from major routes.

On the other hand all the major Central Govt. establishments, banks etc were open, but customers kept themselves away from normal business.

Bandh has become 2nd nature to people in assam. Many a times folks does not bother to know who has given bandh, for how many hours, and what the so called CAUSE!!!....just the date is enough to celebrate it...any one can call a bandh any time...SUCCESS is guarantied before even declaring it!!...NOW only god save Assam

--Use of nasty slang word is offensive-- It is the handiwork of some ignorant people, or else how can anyone justify the use of the word 'Miyan' in an organisation called 'Asom Miyan Parishad' (AMP). Miyan is a slang term used to denote Bangladeshi Muslims. I request the President, Secretary and all concerned to change the name of this organisation as 'Asom Muslim Parishad' or 'Asom Mohammedan Parishad'.
