Assam Times runs on citizen journalism. The Legal Cell is a new arm of that work. It moves beyond reporting into direct action. Underprivileged people across Assam get connected to a panel of empanelled lawyers. The help is free.

Vision & Mission

Justice should not depend on income. That is the goal. Every person in Assam, rich or poor, should have a real path to legal protection.

Free legal aid for underprivileged and marginalised people. Delivered through empanelled lawyers. Backed by Assam Times' citizen-reporter network, which also spreads awareness of legal rights.

Objectives

• Free consultation. People who cannot afford a lawyer get one anyway.
• Simple intake. A helpline or online form.
• Awareness through journalism. Citizen reporters write explainers and cover access-to-justice gaps, especially in rural areas.
• Priority cases. Land disputes. Labour rights. Domestic violence and family law. Document issues — Aadhaar, citizenship, land records. Flood and disaster compensation claims.
• Reach beyond Guwahati. Local correspondents become the first point of contact in other districts.
• Some accountability. Track cases, outcomes, and lawyer participation. Report back to readers now and then.
