₹2.25 Crore Relief Package for 2,400 Assam Flood-Affected Families

NAZIRA, August 14, 2026 — A relief package worth ₹2.25 crore has been announced for 2,400 severely flood-affected and economically vulnerable families in Upper Assam, where communities continue to struggle to rebuild after the devastating floods that began on July 19.

The flooding of the Dikhow River caused extensive damage across parts of Sivasagar, Nazira, Charaideo and Jorhat, leaving families without homes, food stocks, clothing, household belongings and sources of livelihood.

The initiative has been announced by Assam State Jamiat president and chief patron of the Anfar Foundation, Maulana Mustaq Anfar. The assistance will focus on helping vulnerable flood-affected families rebuild their homes.

On August 12, Anfar, accompanied by office-bearers of the Assam State Jamiat and Anfar Foundation, visited several flood-hit areas and interacted with affected residents at the M.C. Club in Nazira.

He said assistance should reach people on the basis of need, irrespective of caste or religion.

Of the ₹2.25 crore commitment, ₹1 crore will be contributed by Jamiat's national president, Maulana Syed Arshad Madani, while the Assam State Jamiat and Anfar Foundation will provide the remaining ₹1.25 crore.

The organisations said the amount of assistance for individual families would be determined after field-level assessments of flood victims' homes and losses, allowing support to be based on the extent of damage and each family's circumstances.

The Assam State Jamiat and Anfar Foundation have already been involved in relief work across Upper Assam. Since July 29, they have distributed food and other essential supplies worth approximately ₹30 lakh among flood-affected communities in several areas.

Meanwhile, Anfar also attended an educational assistance programme for flood-affected children at Holongkatoni village in Nazira on August 12. The programme, organised by the voluntary organisation Wat N E with financial support from the Ajmal Foundation, provided educational materials to more than 100 schoolchildren affected by the floods.

With thousands of families still dealing with damaged homes and disrupted livelihoods, the proposed household-level assessment is expected to identify those in greatest need and determine the support required for their recovery.
