4-days long 'Bhogali Bihu Utsav' begins at Nagaon

The 4 days long 97th ‘Sado Nagaon Bhogali Bihu Utsav’ begins today coinciding with arrival of Magh month amidst lowest temperature in the city. Despite chilled weather and high rising price of essential commodities, the festive spirit witnesses the large gathering of local crowd in Nehru Bali field starting with early evening. The much awaited colorful ‘Fire works’ by Barpeta group is enjoyed by Nagaon citizens belonging to all age groups.


This function was organized by ‘Sado Nagaon Bhogali Bihu Utsav Samiti’ Nagaon which is active since late 2009 to make it successful from 14-17 Jan’10. The complete Nehru Bali field is converted into muti activity zone, where cultural events taking place till mid-night in “Sharat Goswami Kshetra’. The southern area of field is having exhibition of historical Taj Mahal, Great Wall of China etc. to make the utsav a complete family affair. The middle part is holding number of small shops of cottage industry selling Pithas, Ladus, Gamacha, Wooden craft works, pickle and general house-hold items. The northern part of field is holding many sports competition as part of Bihu celebration.


The daily cultural program is intended to give appropriate platform to budding local talents on solo and group dance cum song items in addition to bringing best Assamese established artist from other parts of the State.
