American Center organizes education road show

With the aim at encouraging young students to pursue higher education in the United States, the Education USA Alumni Road show is travelling to four cities- Guwahati, Kolkata, Patna and Ranchi from November 4 to December 9, 2014. 

The program kick-started with the Guwahati leg where the Director of the American Center-Kolkata Joanne (JJ) Joria and exchange alumni Aashna Doshi and Akash Prasad from West Bengal, Dzüvinguno Dorothy Chasie from Nagaland, Mahvish Rahman from Jharkhand, Tanzoom Afroz Ahmed from Assam, Zenith Lairikyengbam and Shanchui Marchang from Manipur, interacted with over 200 school and college students at a day-long program at Guwahati.

The alumni spoke with the students about their experience studying at US educational institutions- life on the campus, the extracurricular activities they had opportunity to engage in, holidays and festivals they celebrated, dorm life, grading system, making friends, staying connected with family back home, food, community service and other anecdotes that are part of the study abroad experience.  

The U.S. Consulate Kolkata through such programs hopes to forge a long-term relationship with U.S. State Department Exchange alumni from east and northeast India who have attended various exchange programs-- Study of the U.S. Institute for Scholars (SUSI), Community College Initiative Program (CCI), Youth Exchange and Study (YES) and Near East and South Asia Undergraduate Exchange Program (NESA UGRAD).  

The Director of the American Center-Kolkata JJ Joria moderated the program and spoke to the Press on the side lines.
