Bandh Crippled Rabha Hasong Areas

Normal life was paralyzed in Rabha Hasong areas of Goalpara and Kamrup districts following a 36 hours Rabha Hasong area bandh call which began at 6 in the morning today. The bandh was called by the All Rabha Students Union, All Rabha Women Council and Sixth Schedule Demand Committee in protest against the Government's failure to hold the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council elections and inclusion of the Council into the sixth schedule of Indian Constitution even after several assurances by the state government. The bandh was the part of a three month long agitation programme announced earlier by ARSU. All vehicles were off from the roads, including NH 37, 62 and 51. Shops and markets, educational institutions, banks and offices of various parts of the area in Goalpara and Kamrup were remained closed during the bandh. However, no untoward incidents were reported from any part of the area.
