Battle over AIIMS in court
The battle over the proposed All India Institute of Medical Science is likely to reach the court with a local organization preparing to drag the BJP led government to the court.
Talking to Assam Times in Raha, AIIMS Demand Committee leaders said that they are all set to move the court with contempt of court suit alleging that despite the recent stay by the National Green Tribunal, the government is gearing up to set up at Changsari. “It is seen that a group of employees has been stepping up land measurement on the controversial site which is wetland for the proposed premier hospital. What is this?’” said the leaders.
“Isn't it a fit case for contempt of court? When the NGT took up the petition the government side was absent and the panel ordered a stay before fixing the next date of hearing how the land measurement could take place? We would move the court,” said president of the organisation.
Notably, the NGT stay ordered brought a ray of hope for the people of Raha who have been fighting for the proposed hospital in the central Assam place.
One person died when hr along with thousand others blocked the NH 37 demanding the hospital in Raha before police sprang upon the protestors with open firing three months back.
