BJP demands photo electoral roll at Govt expenses
The Gomariguri Block Committee of Bharatiya Janata Party has sent a memorandum to State Election Commissioner opposing Election Commission’s directives to the voters to submit their photos at own cost for inclusion in the photo electoral roll of the state. In a press release, Devojit Bora president of BJP’s Gomariguri Block Committee said that it is very unfortunate on the part of the Election Commission to issue such directions. It is the sole responsibility of the Election Commission to prepare Voter List, Voter Identity Card etc and there is no point in burdening the voters to burn a hole in their pocket unnecessarily, Bora added. If every voter spent a minimum amount of ten rupees in submitting their photograph then it is estimated that nearly twenty crore hard earned money of the common people will go down the drain. Only Golaghat district has two lakhs voters and in that way twenty lakhs rupess will be spent that way, so the Gomariguri Block Committee of Bharatiya Janata Party has urged the Election Commission to repeal this irrational decision and collect the photographs at the expense of government exchequer.

The representatives of election commission visited once before 15 days and asked to keep ready the photographs of my family members, which they will collect on 5-5-2012, but none has come to collect the same, whereas from the information gathered they have collected the photographs of my neighbours. The reason for non-collection of photos from my residence cannot be understood.
