Chaath Puja celebrated with fervour

Hundreds  of devotees offered prayers to the setting sun on the bank of rivers and other water bodies of the town on the occasion of Chhath Puja on Thursday evening and Friday morning . The devotees thronging the venues with wicker baskets
filled with offerings to Sun God and Chhathi Maiya, the Goddess who is worshipped during the festival . The devotees offering Prasad and  standing  in kneedeep water offered Argh to Sun God.
The bank of the Nonai and Naika was thronged by devotees and onlookers in three locations in the town as Chhath was celebrated with all its grandeur in the town and its adjoining areas.
The festival includes rigorous fast and rituals spanning four days, holy
bathing, abstaining from drinking water and food, offering argh to Sun God,
standing in water and offering prasad.
