Flood-hit Nazira school struggles to reopen as silt chokes campus

NAZIRA, August 10, 2026 — A government Assamese-medium school in flood-hit Nazira is struggling to resume normal classes after the recent floods left its campus buried under thick layers of silt and debris.

Nazira Adarsha Vidyabhavan, the only Assamese-medium school located inside the ONGC residential colony at Nazira Samajila, suffered extensive damage in the deluge. The flood has left classrooms and parts of the school premises in poor condition, adding to the difficulties faced by students and teachers trying to return to regular academic activities.

The school authorities had sought assistance from ONGC for cleaning and restoration work. However, they were reportedly informed that necessary measures would take time, leaving the school community to manage the immediate crisis on its own.

Teachers have since been working for several days to clear mud and silt from the campus and make the school functional again.

Amid the difficulties, a team led by Naoboicha MLA Dr Jayaprakash Das visited the school and joined the cleaning and restoration work. The intervention provided additional manpower at a time when the school was struggling to clear the flood damage.

School authorities and staff welcomed the assistance, saying that the immediate priority is to restore the campus so that students can return to a safe learning environment.

The condition of the school reflects a wider post-flood challenge in Nazira, where schools and other community institutions are still dealing with mud, damaged infrastructure and the loss of essential facilities even after floodwaters have receded.
