Foundation Day of Purbanchal Tai Sahitya Sabha observed

28th Foundation Day of the Purbanchal Tai Sahitya Sabha (Ban Ok Pu Lik Mioung Tai), a premier literary society of the Tai Ahoms of North east India, was observed at the historic Ho Phi (Deohkhal), Amlokhi Lakwa on April 8 at a gorgeous function. Delegates from all over Assam converged to the place, which started with the unfurling of the organizational flag by the newly elected President, Chow Keshabananda Dihingia and the temple flag by the Chairman of the reception committee Chow Tarun Rajkonwar. It followed homage to martyrs and Ja-Ching-Pha worship. The executive meeting that followed adopted many important resolutions including a work plan. After the oath taking ceremony by the newly elected executive members, an open session was held. Many speakers delivered lectures on various topics, which included recounting respectful account of doyens of Tai Ahom literary giants like Damchows Damabru Deodhai Phukan, Ratneswar Buragohain and Hema Buragohain. The speakers included Chow Bimol Barpatragohain, Kamini Gogoi, Doyananda Borgohain, Mausumi Konwar, Sukha Baruah, Gyananda Phukan, and Biju Moran. The speakers discussed at length on the past and future of Tai Ahom language and interestingly, the effects of globalization and present worldwide economic recession on the Tai Ahom society. The newly elected secretary Chow Atul Phukan, in a separate interview, asserted that there was no factionalism within the organization now, and the members are eager to go ahead with plans and programs to boost up literary and welfare schemes of the Ban Ok Pup Lik Mioung Tai.
