Maut villagers allege bias, negligence by Gaon Pradhan
NAZIRA, September 17, 2026 — A section of residents of Maut village under Shilakuti Gaon Panchayat in Shilakuti Mouza, within Nazira co-district, has submitted a written complaint to the District Commissioner, alleging bias, favouritism and dereliction of duty by the village Gaon Pradhan.
In their petition, the villagers have sought a fair investigation into the allegations and appropriate action if the charges are found to be true.
According to the residents, 33 flood-affected families in the village were allegedly left out of the list of beneficiaries for the ₹15,000 government assistance announced for families affected by the recent devastating floods. The villagers have attributed the alleged exclusion to favouritism and negligence on the part of the Gaon Pradhan.
The residents have also alleged that they frequently face difficulties in accessing government-related services and preparing applications, certificates and other official documents due to what they described as the Gaon Pradhan's lack of efficiency. As a result, villagers allegedly have to get such documents prepared elsewhere, incurring additional expenses.
The petition further alleges that the Gaon Pradhan has exceeded the prescribed government age limit for holding the post.
The villagers have urged the District Commissioner to conduct a thorough inquiry into all the allegations and take appropriate action if the charges are found to be substantiated. They have also sought necessary steps to address the difficulties faced by residents of Maut village.
