Nagaland police camp withdrawn from Merapani

The tension prevailing in the border town of Merapnai along Assam-Nagaland border at Golaghat has come to an end today when the Nagaland Government has finally withdrawn the Naga Armed Police camp set up in the Upper Merapani at around 11 am today. The Superintendent of Police, Wokha District sent a letter to the Sector Commander of CRPF stationed in Merapani informing the decision of the Nagaland Government to withdraw their police force. This move of Nagaland govt has brought a sigh of relief to the people of Merapani area. It is pertinent to mention here that both Assam and Nagaland government has set up their respective police camp in Merapani on the request of CRPF to deal with the tension erupted in the area following the death of a local businessman on August. As the normalcy returns, the Assam government has withdrawn its force totally on 12th September whereas the Nagaland government instead of withdrawing its forces has tried to convert the temporary police battalion camp to a permanent one naming it as NST Colony Police Outpost.
