Nazira Flood Victims Allege Errors in Damage Survey

NAZIRA, August 14, 2026 — Allegations of irregularities in flood relief distribution and the ongoing damage assessment survey have surfaced in Nazira, where residents say some genuinely affected families risk being left out of compensation and recovery assistance.

Complaints have been raised over the distribution of drinking water, food supplies, government ration, relief packages and the ₹15,000 one-time financial assistance announced for flood-affected families.

The latest concerns centre on the damage assessment now underway in Nazira town. Residents allege that despite floodwaters entering a large number of residential areas, some affected houses are being recorded as unaffected during the survey.

Questions have also been raised over the accuracy of claims submitted by some households. Residents allege that people living in well-built concrete houses may be showing damaged warehouses, abandoned structures or other buildings as their residences to claim compensation. At the same time, they say some families who suffered genuine losses have not been properly included in the assessment.

Many households reportedly lost poultry, goats and other livestock, while water pumps, scooters, motorcycles and household belongings were damaged in the floods. Residents fear that errors, negligence or alleged bias in the survey could deprive genuinely affected families of assistance.

They have called for a transparent and impartial review of the assessment wherever discrepancies are reported and urged the authorities to ensure that compensation and relief are based on the actual losses suffered by each household.

For families struggling to recover from one of the worst floods to hit the region, an accurate assessment is crucial. A family wrongly left out of the survey could lose access to assistance needed to repair a home, replace essential belongings or restore its livelihood.
