Nazira MLA alleges death threat during flood relief operations
NAZIRA, July 25, 2026 — Newly elected Nazira MLA Mayur Borgohain has alleged that he and his family received death threats while he was engaged in relief operations for flood-affected people in the constituency.
Addressing a press conference at a relief camp office in Balighat on Friday, Borgohain said he received a threatening phone call from mobile number 8638865810 while overseeing rescue and relief work following the Dikhow River floods. He alleged that the caller used abusive language and threatened to kill him and his family.
The MLA said he immediately informed the police. According to him, preliminary investigation identified the caller as Anand Dadhara of Samaguri in Nagaon district. Police have reportedly initiated action in connection with the incident.
Borgohain also appealed for greater support from the Assam government for flood-affected people in the Nazira constituency. Urging people to rise above political, religious and social differences, he called on all political parties, including the Congress, BJP and CPI, as well as community organisations, to extend assistance to those affected.
He said the scale of the disaster has prevented him from visiting all the flood-hit areas, with many families still stranded in inundated villages. While acknowledging that the government has been supplying food, drinking water and medicines, he said relief has not yet reached every affected family.
The MLA added that legislators and ministers from different parts of Assam have extended support to flood victims in Nazira. Speaking at the press conference, Barkhetri MLA Narayan Deka said relief materials, including food, clothing and drinking water, had been sent from his constituency for distribution among flood-affected families in Nazira.
Several BJP workers from the constituency were also present at the press conference.
The alleged threat has raised concerns over the safety of public representatives engaged in relief work during the ongoing flood crisis.
