PIL against illegal settlement at Kaziranga

At the time when there has been uproar in the entire country regarding illegal migrant and encroacher in Assam from neighbouring Bangladesh, neither the Central nor the state government has clarified their stand as yet. Specially a lot of concern has been displayed from several indigenous organizations of the state regarding the presence of large number of illegal Bangladeshi migrant in and around Kaziranga National Park, one of the oldest protected areas in the world and Assam’s pride and identity. But ironically the state govt. blatantly denied the issue as baseless rumour.

Meanwhile, Mrinal Kumar Saikia, Adviser of Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad and former president of BJP Golaghat unit has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Hon’ble Gauhati High Court on 4th October demanding eviction of illegal Bangladeshi migrants from Kaziranga National Park and its vicinity. After going through the PIL, a division bench comprising Chief Justice A K Goel and Justice A Goswami directed both the Central and state government to clarify their stand on 18th October but failing to do so, the High Court has extended the date to 19th November to come up with their respective clarification without fail. It will be a worth a wait to see how the Central and the State government present their case and what future course of action will the High Court carry out. The petitioner was represented by Advocate Rita Boro Bora and Uday Jyoti Saikia while Central government was represented by Advocate Chandra Barua and Devojit Saikia, Additional Advocate General has represented the State government.
