Police cracks City blast case
GUWAHATI: The ULFA was able to drive the IED-laden autovan from Nalbari to Guwahati to trigger the blast at Bamunimaidam area in which one person was killed on September 1.
Addl. SP (City) Rajen Singh said: "Two youths - Kamaleswar Das and Joonjyoti Sarma – are directly involved in the incident. Kamaleswar bought the autovan about 10-15 days ago. He fitted the bomb in Nalbari on August 31. He took one Joonjyoti Sarma as driver of the van and stayed in Nalbari. In the early morning of September 1, they brought the autovan to Guwahati and parked it at the Bamunimaidam Railway Colony at 11.30 am."
Earlier, the City Police arrested three persons, including the owner and driver of the autovan (AS-01-R-1009) that was used in the blast. During interrogation, they confessed that they sold the autovan to four youths for Rs 53,000 at the Zoo Road area of the city 15 days ago. However, they did not have any information regarding those youths.
Yesterday, on suspicion, the police arrested the three persons and took them into custody for six days. The senior police offical said: "Kamaleswar Das (21), son of Achyut Das. Achyut Das is a peon at a State Government office in the city and resident of Krishna Nagar, Japorigog.
