SC breather for Chief Secy, DGP
In a major ray of relief, the Supreme Court stayed the Gauhati High Court’s non-bailable warrant against Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and Superintendent of Police (SIC) Vigilance in a contempt petition. The respondents filed their detailed affidavits in reply.
The matter was listed on 2nd September before the division bench of Gauhati High Court headed by the Acting Chief Justice, without considering the affidavits of the Respondents, ordered that the Respondents are absent and issued Non- Bailable Warrant asking IG Police to produce them in the court on 8th September. They could not be represented as the advocates were not allowed to enter the courtroom of the acting Chief Justice due to the boycott call by the Bar Association.
Against the said order, SLP was filed and the matter was listed today as item 1 in court 1 and the court stayed the non-bailable warrant and issued notice in the matter.
