Silverlining in Manipur as Amit Shah visits Churachandpur

Imphal: A series of negotiations with Union Home Minister Amit Shah by a few civil society groups from the plains and hills is widely believed to have marked the beginning of an end to the ongoing bloodbath in Manipur on Tuesday.

Civil society groups from the trouble-hit Churachandpur have learned to have agreed to remain calm as Shah on the second day of his visit to Churachandpur announced a probe into this orgy of incidents by a retired Supreme Court judge.

Shah further offered to institute a thorough probe by CBI without the involvement of state officials.

He said the centre would dispatch, immediately, a team of medical specialists with medicines to ensure better treatment of the injured people and that the families who have lost their members in these incidents would be able to receive compensation through direct benefit transfer schemes.

Further, the authority would ensure an immediate supply of foodgrains for the displaced people both in the Imphal valley and the hills districts..

He urged civil society groups to force midguided youths to eschew the path of violence.

Shah, who reviewed the law and order situation in a series of meetings with security top guns, is scheduled to visit Moreh on Wednesday.
