TET teachers may go unpaid

Contractual TET teachers engaged in the state government aided schools, may be deprived from their salaries with a huge amount of fund being diverted by the Sarba Siksha Abhiyan Mission, Assam. The central government granted Sarba Shikha Abhiyan, Mission, Assam more than eight hundred crore rupeesfor paying the TET teachers’ salariesin the fiscal year2014-15. But a huge amount of the fund has been diverted into different heads by the Mission Abhiyan costing the TET teachers. According to available information the contractual TET teachers numbering around 32 thousands may not get salaries from February.

The central government has been paying the contractual TET teachers’ salaries through the Sarba Shikha Mission Abhiyan. The contractual TET teachers in the state have been initially engaged for five years and among them some eight thousands teachers on merit basis received regular appointments under the state Education Department. 

The fate of the TET teachersengaged purely on merit basis in different schools across the state is hanging in a balance till now. It is still not clear whether they would be appointed on regular basis or not after expiry of their contractual term. It is worth mentioning here that more than 13 thousand posts of regular teachers in various government aided schools are lying vacant across the state. Ironically, the state government has notyet filled up the vacant posts.
