YouTuber appears before the Assam Police
Controversial YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia appeared before the Assam Police in Guwahati on Friday in connection with a case related to his objectionable comments made during the ‘India’s Got Talent’ show. He is currently being questioned by the Crime Branch of Guwahati Police.
Allahbadia was initially supposed to appear before the Assam Police last week regarding the case, which stems from his controversial remarks on the show that sparked widespread criticism. A case was registered against him in Guwahati, and he was issued a summons to appear before the police.
Last week, the Guwahati Crime Branch also questioned another YouTuber, Ashish Chanchlani, who was similarly embroiled in the controversy for his comments during an episode of the show. Chanchlani’s interrogation lasted several hours after he arrived at the Crime Branch office. He was questioned on multiple allegations before being released in the evening.
Speaking to reporters, Guwahati’s Joint Police Commissioner, Ankur Jain, stated, “Chanchlani appeared for interrogation at the Crime Branch and cooperated with our inquiry. If necessary, we will call him again, but there are no immediate plans to do so. Other individuals linked to the investigation have not yet responded to police notices. They will be issued fresh summons soon.”
On February 21, the Supreme Court directed the Governments of Maharashtra and Assam to respond to the YouTuber’s plea seeking the dismissal or transfer of the case to Mumbai. The case was filed in Assam after Allahbadia made controversial remarks during an episode of the show hosted by Samay Raina, in which Chanchlani was also named in the FIR.
Allahbadia, popularly known by his stage name BeerBiceps, faced severe backlash and multiple complaints for his inappropriate comments about parents and sex during the show. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
