Guwahati: ULFA received a serious blow on Friday as the Army and Assam police arrested five of its top guns with a huge cache of arms and ammunition including RDX explosives from a hide-out in Baska district of Assam.
According to information, acting on a tip off, Army and Assam police conducted a joint raid at Murkusiapara village under Barama police station close to Bhutan border and apprehended the ultras in the morning.
Altogether 3.5 kgs of RDX explosives, two 7.63 mm pistols, three China-made grenades, four detonators weighting 4 kgs each, 32 rounds of ammunition of AK 47 assault rifles, three timer devices used in bombs, explosive materials used in making improvised explosive devices have also been recovered from the spot.
The arrested ULFA militants are named as Pradip Barman, Mono Das, Shankar Rajbongshi, Haramohan Saud, and Modo Rajbongshi, say police sources.
The search operations in Bagsa district bordering Bhutan was launched on the basis of tip-off that the DR P C Ram was being kept in the area by ULFA in different hide outs.
