Baksa: Body recovered in Barpeta

Security forces recovered the body of Abu Bakar Siddique in Barpeta on Saturday evening 24 hours after the lemon trader was kidnapped by gunmen along with three others in Baksa district.

Police have already picked up three persons in this connection. Simmering tension and anger have forced the authorities to step up securities in the entire area.

Curfew is still on the Anandabazar areas under Gobardhana police station to deal with possible outbreak of violence.

Security forces are conducting a massive search to rescue Saddam Ali, Ataur Rahman and Rahul Amin who were kidnapped at gunpoint at Labdanguri market in Salbari sub-division. /

In yet another bizarre incident that sends shockwaves across the state, a farmer couple committed suicide in Barpeta district after poisoning their 2 children on Sunday. The incident took place in the Sarthebari area where caught in grim poverty the couple poisoned to death their children and then hanged themselves in the evening. Local residents blamed poverty which forced them to take this extreme course of action. The incident took place a month after a poor farmer took the same course of action when flood waves ravaged his crops.    
Veteran author and educationist Jiban Krishna Patra passed away leaving a pall of gloom in the entire Barpeta district on Tuesday. Three persons who sustained serious injury in Barpeta lightening on Saturday are battling for life at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital.At least fifteen others have been undergoing treatment at the Barpeta Medical College Hospital who are out of danger. The boat carrying more than 50 people was caught in a storm in the middle of the river Beki where the lightening struck on it leaving seven people died on the spot.
