Japanese Encephalitis continues to wreak havoc in the state where the death toll has gone up to 52.
Barpeta district remains worst affected after the death toll has gone up to eight apart from the rise in then number of confirmed positive cases which stands at 54.
Barpeta is followed by the rural Kamrup district with 34 cases. Four patients died.
Darrang, Sivasagar and Nalbari have all registered six deaths. Nalbari has recorded 20 confirmed positive cases while Kamrup (metro) district has recorded 31 positive cases but no deaths so far.
The total number of positive cases registered in the state is 323.
This is for the first time that lower Assam has recorded so many positive cases and the department is yet to ascertain the exact reasons behind it.
