I-Day celebration peaceful

 Amid tight security the Independence Day celebration is over across the state on Friday. The day long celebrations passed off peacefully. There is no report of any incident during the celebrations of the red letter day.

Braving an inclement weather in the morning people in large  number came out to the public places to hoist the national tricolor.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi unfurled the national flag at the Khanapara Veterinary Playground in the morning and took salute of the army, police, para military forces, NCC, scouts and guides.

Reports of peaceful celebrations of the big historic day are pouring in from different places across the state with a series o cultural programmes.

Defying traditional diktat of the militant outfits, the people of all walks of life observed the day with much pomp and gaiety.     //
