PM flags off train to Mendipathar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Guwahati-Mendhipothar train in Meghalaya at a function in Guwahati on Saturday.

In his speech the prime minister stressed better rail connectivity in the north eastern region saying that his the region will be the thrust area of his government.

Governor JB Patnaik, Union ministers Sarbananda Sonowal, Kiren Rijiju, Chief minister Tarun Gogoi and his Meghalaya counterpart Dr Mukul Sangma were among those who attended the function at Maligaon organized by the Northeastern Frontier Railway.

A class III student died after falling off of a dilapidated bamboo bridge on Sunday noon at Siuguri under Raha P.S. According to information received, the 13 year old student named Momtaj Begam accompanied by two friends was on her way home at the time. All of a sudden, she slipped off of the wholes of the dilapidated bridge's railing landing on the hard mud below. She was later declared dead at the hospital.
