Focus on wildlife literature

Authors, wild life experts stressed the need of scientific writings to boost the wildlife conservation efforts when they participated in a discussion on the subject on the last day of the Guwahati Lit Fest on Monday.

Wild life expert Abhijit Rabha deplored rampant destruction of wild life habitats and merciless killing of beautiful birds and butterflies on every passing day.

“Need of the hour is popular writings on wild life to create wildlife awareness among the common mass,” said Rabha who is authoring two books on Manas sanctuary and Sinhason Hills entitled Porbote Porbote.

Wild life activists and prolific writer Saumyadeep Dutta said that media’s initiative in the form of wild life literature can g a long way to boost the conservation effort.

He said that a scientific writes ups only for the sake of one’s career purpose has nothing to do with wild life conservation if the main objectives the venture are not kept in mind.

“The time is not far away when we would have to cry to bring fish under the ambit of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 which would prevent us from fishing,” said the wildlife activist.

Another wild life expert Sheila Bora said that wild life literature should be popular and inclusive to make the common people aware of the conservation effort.

Senior journalist Samudragupta Kashyap said that the media people need to create more stories on wild life to make the people aware of conservation efforts. He expressed grave concern over the negligible amount of wild life write ups in Assam.

“School children and their parents should be involved in it with a campaign in a big way,” he said. Author Arup Kumar Dutta, who moderated the discussion.

It's a love story set in today's world. The story is about Keteki, a designer, and Ved, a businessperson. Once I started reading, I couldn't stop. The story begins with Keteki and Ved meeting at an airport. Ved is going to Assam to see a special lightbulb factory. Keteki is coming back home to Guwahati after an art show in London. Their chance meeting leads to a love story that goes beyond borders and takes them on adventures in Assam and other places. What I liked about "Keeping in Touch" is how Anjali...
