BTC election: counting going on

Counting to the 40 member the BTC council election going on starting from 8 am this morning amidth tight security in the four districts.

In Kokrajhar,the counting halls were arranged in  three sub-divisions at Kokrajhar,Gossaigaon and Parbatjhora in a vigil security.

Expected that final declaration of the results to the council would be announced by 6 pm.

Normal life remained partially disrupted under the impact of the 12 hours Assam bandh called by BTAD Bengali Youth Students Federation and Assam Bengali Youth Students Federation on Wednesday alleging harassment to Hindu Bengalies in the name of steps to update NRC. The bandh started from  5 in the morning where roads remained bare in some places in BTAD. Shops and markets and schools and colleges, banks and offices remained closed.The students federation alleged that the government has been creating unleashing disturbances among the Hindu Bengalies in the name of updating the NRC.
Security forces seized a truck carrying smuggled teak logs from Alangi area under Kokrajgar police station on Wednesday.The consignment was intercepted from a truck bearing No AS-01A 7434 as it was on way to Kalgachia in Barpeta from Athiabari in Kokrajhar.Police arrested four persons in this connection. They have been identified as Mohd Sukur Ali, Ismail Ali of Sorbhog Jamadarguri , Barpeta, Binamin Rabha and Dhananjay Rabha, both of Serfanguri Prem Nagar in Kokrajhar.
Kokrajhar police arrested three money snatchers from Kokrajhar SBI complex today while they were tried to snatch money from a banker.According to police,three persons hailed Darjeeling of West Bengal state were arrested when they tried to snatched  money from a banker who coming out from SBI after drawing money from bank.They followed the SBI complex in Kokrajhar town on day brought light.The arrested were identified as Ashok Das,Aman Shah and Kiteo Das,hailed from Darjeeling.
