Former AGP leader and cultural activist Kartik Hazarika passed away hours after he underwent liver surgery at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai on Monday.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many organizations and individuals have condoled Hazarika’s death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. Hazarika was one of the leaders of the Assam Agitation. 

The Asom Gana Parishad will keep its flag half mast for the next three days to condole the death of the founder leader of the party.

A state level advisory panel in Assam cleared the decks on Sunday for Akhil Gogoi to move the court for bail. Gogoi, who was arrested under the National Security Act is moving a bail petition before the Gauhati High Court in a day or two.  The advisory panel listened to the case pertaining to the arrest of the KMSS leader and will take up it again on October 26.  Gogoi was arrested under NSA last month a couple of weeks after he was lodged in Dibrigarh Central Jail for openly urging the common people to remain prepared for an armed struggle.
