Programme on safe drinking water
An awareness programmee on pure and safe drinking water for good health was organized by the extension education service cell in collaboration with the IQAC,Kokrajhar Government College at Harinaguri High School auditorium hall in Kokrajhar on Friday.Co-ordinator of the awareness programmee and Lecturer Kokrajhar Government College Sikhna Jhon Wary addressing the gathering said that the awareness programmee was organized to bring awareness among the common people about water born diseases. Former Joint Director,Health Services, Dr.Mansingh Narzary, Kokrajhar was the chief speaker in the programme. The programme saw the attendance of various school functionaries, students and commoners including the Harinaguri High School Management Committee chairman Hariprasad Sarma, Vice Principal, Kokrajhar Govt.College, P.Chakraborty along with the teaching staff and several village heads.

The People's Coordination for Democratic Rights (PCDR) is going all out against illegal tax collection in BTAD areas.The organization will be on a 36 hour strike on Tuesday alleging illegal tax near Srirampur inter-state checkgate in Kokrajhar district.PCDR leaders told Assam Times that the illegal tax collection was to be blamed for the steep rise in prices of essential commodities.“Prices will not come down as long as the illegal tax collection is not stopped,” they said. A body of Birdao Brahma (18) of Hatimata Ward number 8 was recovered Gaurang river this afternoon in Kokrajhar town today. Brahma along with his friends went to the river this morning and drowned the river. Later, his body was was fished out from the river near Gaurang bridge.

Police arrested three persons in witch-hunt related case in remote Mainaopur village under Bishmuri police outpost in Kokrajhar district.According to police, some people in the village caught and tied Bishor Brahma (50) with a rope and took him to a local school in the village when had gone to his village Mainaopur, where his family lives and physically assaulted him.Police said Bishor Brahma was forced out of the village 4 years back after accusing him of practising black magic. At least six bike lifters were arrested by police and fifteen bikes also recovered from various parts of the town in Kokrajhar district. According to a senior police officer in Kokrajhar told that the police stepped up to check bike lifting case that created resented among society in the Kokrajhar town since long years and six bike lifters were arrested since a week and recovered fifteen bikes which were lifted by thieves from the town. Security forces arrested a hardcore cadre of National Santhali Liberation Army (NSLA) today from Gopaljhora area under Bagribari police station in Kokrajhar district. Acting in tiptop information about hiding of militants, a joint team of Assam Police and Army carried out a search operation this afternoon and able to arrest a NSLA cadre.The cadre was identified as Sunil Hembrom.
