Tremors struck again

Three back to back tremors struck no less panic on Tuesday forcing the authorities to sound alert across the state.

The state rattled at 12.37 when a 7.4 magnitude originated in Kathmandu. This was followed by the second one tremor which was of mild 3.4 intensity in Richter scale at 1.20 in the afternoon. The epicenter was Tezpur.

Yet another earthquake spread panic among the people 30 minutes later forcing the people to come out of their high rise buildings.

In Guwahati also, the panic stricken people rushed to the roads and open space as soon as the tremors were felt. Cracks are believed to have surfaced in the Anandoram Barooah Flyover in Guwahati apart from three buildings. There is no report of any casualty till now.

Ray of hope in SOS children village

Hojai: Smiling faces kept shinning in the SOS village in Hojai when they participated an art competition jointly CII supported by TATA Sustainability Group on Saturday at Telibasti MV School. Altogether 124 promising children participated in this competition to be divided into three groups:- Group A (Class 3 to 7),Group B (Class 8 to 10) and Group C (SOS Children). RSS holding huge rally in Guwahati

GUWAHATI:Guwahati is holding a huge RSS rally on Sunday forcing the authority to step up security in the face of an escalating criticism from a section of political parties and organizations. Mild tremor rerun strikes panic

GUWAHATI: A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck massive panic in Assam early in the morning on Saturday. Originated at Gauripur in Dhubri, the tremor jolted the entire state at 6.45 in the morning forcing many people in the high rise buildings in the urban areas to come down to the open space. There is,however, no report of any casualty or loss of property. Gold biscuits seized in Guwahati airport

GUWAHATI: Security forces seized gold weighing nearly 1 KG from a person at the Lokoriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Friday. Acting on a tip off, the CISF jawans raided Ankush Chetti who was preparing to depart the city to New Delhi by the IndiGo flight in the morning. When thoroughly checked, the gold biscuits worth ₹30 lakh was discovered in his rectum. He was arrested and the biscuits were recovered at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
