Gamlin joins as Delhi chief secy

Despite stiff resistance from Arvind Kejriwal and his lobby senior IAS officer from Assam Shakuntala Gamlin took over as Delhi chief secretery. 

Shakuntala, the daughter of former minister Lalit Doley and wife of former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Jarbom Gamlin has alleged intimidation by a section of bureacrates not to take over. 

He was Lt Governor Jung who appointed her in the top post defying the chief minister's opposition who calls her corrupt.

Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday tore apart Tarun Gogoi alleging that the chief minister was hardly interested in the budget benefit.  Talking to reporters in Guwahati, Sonowal said that central funds are available for the state.  Dispur is all set to resume the NRC works which would help the state detect the immigrants.    After formally accepting the modalities for updating the NRC prepared by the state government, the Centre has already released Rs.144 crore to the state for the project. Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami is expected to clear all the hurdles during his proposed visit the state next week. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi and his loyalists will try their best to manage the floor to avoid any embarrassment in the upcoming assembly session slated from August 4. Sources to Dispur told Assam Times that the party leadership is all set to issue whip to all the MLAs to support the government on the floor of the House. The ruling party fears that the Opposition may move a no trust motion against the government in the upcoming session in view of the paralyzing dissidence within the Congress legislative party. There is marginal let up in the over all flood scenario. The water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries have stated redecing during the last 24 hours. But over 50 villages in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and Jorhat districts are still reeling under water in the second round of floods. Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Nematighat. Same it is in Beki which flowing over the danger mark at Barpeta town.
The overall flood situation in Majuli remains grim where over 25,000 people living in 65 villages have been reeling under the flash flood following heavy rain. The administration has shifted the marooned families to higher places.
