Gamlin joins as Delhi chief secy

Despite stiff resistance from Arvind Kejriwal and his lobby senior IAS officer from Assam Shakuntala Gamlin took over as Delhi chief secretery. 

Shakuntala, the daughter of former minister Lalit Doley and wife of former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Jarbom Gamlin has alleged intimidation by a section of bureacrates not to take over. 

He was Lt Governor Jung who appointed her in the top post defying the chief minister's opposition who calls her corrupt.

 Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhubaneswar Kalita on Thursday said that Himanta Biswa Sarma’s resignation before the Governor is against the party’s constitution . Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Thursday, Kalita said that nobody from the party suggested him to move the governor. He called it a case of clear violation of the party’s constitution.   According to him, the AICC leadership has not taken it easily.

 In a huge breakthrough, security forces claimed to have captured five top militants during a combing operation in Karbi Anglong district on Thursday. These include general secretary of the Karbi Peoples Liberation Army who were arrested during a joint police and Army team from Krogaon in the morning. According to police, identified as KPLT General Secretary Ranam Mirjang, the four militants were apprehended by a team of police and Army's Jat Regiment.  A huge quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi rolls up his sleeves to reshuffle his council of minister in  day or two. Sources told Assam Times that Gogoi has finalised the date during his meeting with Governor JB Patnaik on Wednesday afternoon. Gogoi is likely to give ministerial berth to Sarat Borkataky, Dr Bhumidhar Barman, Bidya Sing Engleng, Sukur Ali Ahmed, Bhupen Kumar Borah, Abdul Muhib Mazumdar and Girindra Mallik and Chandan Sarkar.  Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday allocated additional portfolios temporarily to four ministers in his cabinet a day after he dropped two ministers. Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Nazrul Islam will look in the health and family welfare. Pradyut Bordoloi will hold additional portfolio of education apart from power and industry. Agricultural Minister Nilamoni Sen Deka got two additional portfolios - irrigation and soil conservation. Minister of State for Excise, Sports and Youth Welfare Ajit Singh will hold cooperation as an additional portfolio.  
A tea stall owner was killed and three others sustained injury when suspected ULFA militants exploded a powerful blast in Goalpara district on Wednesday. The explosion took place at around 8 in the morning at a stone's throw distance from the Krishnai police station where the person identified as Mujibur Rehman was killed on the spot. The three injured have been identified as Akhtar Hussain, Kashimuddin and Jehrul Islam respectively who have been shifted to the hospital. Sources told Assam Times that Gogoi is ready to seek an appointment with Governor JB Patnaik for his consent to reshuffle his cabinet. At least ten portfolios have been remaining idle after Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma resigned and Siddique Ahmed and Ardhendu Dey were axed.  Transport department has been running without a minister to look into following Chanda Brahma’s resignation.
