In yet another development in the state’s political scenario six months ahead of the assembly polls, an independent MLA is set to join BJP on Saturday. He is Dwipen Pathak, who is expected to unofficially join BJP when he is meeting party president Amit Shah in New Delhi in the afternoon. Pathak, who won the polls five years back with Trinamool Congress ticket later resigned the party.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday made an aerial survey in the flood affected areas in Dibrugarh, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia and Sivasagar.He asked the authority to intensify relief and rescue operations in the flooded areas. He further alleged that the Centre has not released any fund to help the flood-hit lot. Congress leader Ripun Bora took on Sarbananda Sonowal a day after the Union minister Union minister claimed that the Centre has released funds for the flood affected people.Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Friday, Bora said that the Rs 270 cr fund released recently was the outstanding amount. “Sonowal is not perhaps not aware of these and that’s why, he has been saying so,” said Bora. The Gauhati High Court on Friday set up a special panel to look into the allegations against acting chief justice K Sredharan Rao. Taking up two different petitions against the Justice Rao a division bench of the court set up the committee. The bench asked the committee to submit the report within ten days. “We are satisfied with the move. Let our serious allegations against the Justice Rao be probed.
