It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..
The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) has warned against the steps to eulogize the outside personalities by installing their statues who have downplayed Assam and its people. In a statement released on Sunday, the outfit’s publicity secretary Aronodoi Dohotia said that the state’s political leaders who have been kowtowing their bosses in the distant Delhi should stop paying homage to the outside heroes. He said Assam has no dearth of heroes to be highlighted. Eulogizing outsiders would undermine the heroes at home, said the ULFA(I) leader adding questioning the major roads and projects named after Nehru who bad farewell to Assam in his radio speech during the Chinese aggression.
A lower court in Guwahati on Saturday remanded Dr Rakesh Paul to 14 days police custody a day after the APSC chairman was arrested on corruption charges. Amid heavy security, police produced Paul before the CJM court in the Guwahati in the afternoon and sought 14 days remand saying that many stunning revelations would surface during the interrogation. Assam paid glowing tribute to Dr Bhupen Hazarika on the third death anniversary of the music maestro across the state on Saturday. Jalukbari broke into a sea of humanity as thousands of his fans made long queue to catch a glimpse of the grave. Many day long cultural programmes, mostly, the Bhupendra Sangeet are lined up on the occasion heavily attended by the people of all walks of life. According to information police arrested Paul on Friday. Paul, who is being interrogated at an undisclosed location in the city, would be produced in a lower court in Guwahati on Saturday seeking police remand.

Trouble brews for Himanta Biswa Sarma a couple of days after the senior minister’s comment on Hindu refugees from the neighbouring countries ran into a hail of protest. The Chatra Mukti Sangram Samity has lodged a case against Dr Sarma in Tinsukia police station alleging that the senior BJP leader’s comment is communal which could brew riot. Talking to Assam talks, the KMSS student wing leaders said that under no circusmtances they would allow the minister to strike any controversy with communal remark. “We demand action against Dr Sarma. Three persons received injuries following road mishap met at Nikashi under Mushalpur PS of Baksa district on Thursday. According to eye witnesses of the incident, a Swift Dzire vehicle fall to near by pond due to brake fail while giving side for a speedy bike at Nikashi and three persons,including driver of the vehicle received injuries. Two of the injuries were professors of Nikashi Gyanpith Degree College.Identified as Bikash Bhatta,Alpana Das and Apurba Patgiri(Driver).Injures were rushed to hospital.
